This officer's rank is L/Sgt. Hong Kong Police. He was engaged on a five- year contract through the Crown Agent in September, 1938, and his agreement has accordingly expired. During his tour of duty in Hong Kong he was on regular police duties in Kowloon. He was born in Canada but his family live in Dundee, Scotland. His address in Canada will be c/o his unt, liss L. Fyffo, 11, Nickle Avenue, Mount Dennis, Toronto. Sgt. Fyffe is anxious to remain in the Colonial Police Service and is particularly interested in reconstruction work in Hong Kong and the Far East. Meanwhile he holds himself at the disposal of the authorities in London and is unger and willing to serve in any Colony of the Empire until he is required in the Far East.
In comparison with his repatrited police colleagues, Sgt. Fyffe looks less robust; he has lost 30 pounds during imprisonment and has so far regained only 9. His sight has been affected by bad diet, a condition due to vitamin deficiency which is understood normally to yield to treatment.
Sgt. Fyffe wishes, after a short period of rest in Canada, to return to Scotland to spend any balance of leave due to him; he is prepared to resume duty in any part of the world as soon as required but hopes that sufficient time will be granted to him to recuperate.
The main points which he brought out in conversation with me as regards the situation in Hong Kong were as follows:-
The morale of the comp has been good but will be severely tested by the coming winter; like all the other repatriates he emphasized the gravity of the situation that will develop in Hong Kong unless the camp diet improves or repatriation can be arranged for the seriously ill prisoners.
